Statement
Bryan Thomas trained at the Architectural Association 1945-1950, and worked with David Stern and later with Wells Coates and his partner Michael Lyell in London. In 1957 he set up his own practice in Colchester, Essex, producing a number of houses locally, many of which he has since revisited to extend and upgrade for the 21st century. Perhaps Thomas’ most iconic house is the House on the Heath, built in 1974, and in 1960 he designed and built the Chatto House for British gardener Beth Chatto. Thomas has built houses both for himself and his family. His most recent project in Alresford, Essex, completed in 2006, and in 2013 he received a commendation in the Sunday Times’ British Homes Award.
The practice is one of a number of entries recently added to our Directory of Architects and Designers.
