Architect of the Week: George Kay Green

British architect George Kay Green is best known for designing a number of Art Deco apartment blocks in London in the first decades of the 20th century.

Relatively little is known about his early career. In 1897, in partnership with William H. McLachlan, Green established a practice in Edinburgh prior to relocating to London. His most notable projects were carried out in the 1930s, and include Sloane Avenue Mansions – an 11-storey Art Deco residential building in Chelsea, Nell Gwynn House (also in Chelsea), and Balham’s Du Cane Court, completed in 1937.
