This year’s Alvar Aalto Medal has been awarded to Spanish architects Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano, founders of Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos. The practice, established in 1985, has completed museums and art galleries across Spain, Germany and Austria, and designed the temporary Barceló Market in Madrid. Founded in 1967, the Alvar Aalto Medal is a Finnish architecture prize awarded every three years to an architect exemplifying professional and creative excellence. The award is named after its inaugural winner, Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto, who also designed the medal. An exhibition of work by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos is currently on display at the Museum of Finnish Architecture, until March 1st. For more information on the award visit the Alvar Aalto Foundation website.
