This article is more than a year old and may contain information that is out of date. Sorry about that.
This chapel by Mendes da Rocha is a fine example of the Brazilian architect’s fluent use of concrete. Interested as much in the practical advantages of the material as the poetic, Mendes da Rocha’s work in concrete is clearly influenced by his fellow Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer (with perhaps a little less of the older architect’s flamboyance). Mendes da Rocha, now 83, is a former winner of the Pritzker Prize. His work is largely concentrated in the São Paulo area of Brazil.
