Located on Skara Brae, one of the Orkney Islands, this house was built in 2014, based on the traditional partially-submerged dwellings constructed to provide inhabitants with thermal insulation and protection from the stormy climate.
Built into steeply sloping ground with the exterior painted black, the house was designed to reflect the surrounding peat, gorse and stormy skies.
