House of the Day: Melnikov House by Konstantin Melnikov

July 27th, 2016

This article is more than a year old and may contain information that is out of date. Sorry about that.

This property, designed by Russian architect and painter Konstantin Melnikov, represents the forefront of the 1920s Russian avant-garde. Built on an open lot in Moscow, its aesthetics differ dramatically from traditional Soviet residential architecture.

Arguably Melnikov’s most impressive architectural work, the design features two interlocking cylindrical volumes, each three storeys high, with enough space to house his family, and studios for both his painting and architectural work.
