House of the Day: Milam Residence by Paul Rudolph

August 18th, 2016

This article is more than a year old and may contain information that is out of date. Sorry about that.

American architect Paul Rudolph designed and built this distinctive house in Jacksonville, Florida in 1961.

The concrete facade of the building was designed to explore the separation of interior and exterior spaces – the geometric framework is independent of the structure behind it. The rectangles and squares of the facade only occasionally related to the interior rooms, forming sunscreens at various levels.
