This article is more than a year old and may contain information that is out of date. Sorry about that.
Charlotte, marketing coordinator at The Modern House, has chosen the ziggurats at the University of East Anglia as her favourite building(s).
Growing up nearby, she saw the concrete halls of residence as an interesting oddity in a city that is known for its Norman, medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture.
Designed by Denys Lasdun, UEA was one of the ‘plate-glass universities’ that were constructed in the 1960s to meet calls for the expansion of higher education (others include the universities of Essex, Kent and Sussex).
Malcolm Bradbury joined the staff at UEA in 1965, and undoubtedly drew inspiration for The History Man (one of Charlotte’s favourite books) from his experiences there.
