Denys Lasdun is responsible for some of England’s most remarkable brutalist buildings, including Keeling House in Bethnal Green and Norfolk Terrace at University of East Anglia.
The National Theatre is perhaps his most notable work and has attracted controversy since opening in 1976, with Prince Charles describing it as “a clever way of building a nuclear power station in the middle of London without anyone objecting.”
This new exhibition at the NT explores the construction and history of the building, as well as Lasdun’s architectural vision. It is open until September.
