The Dutch Way: From Houseboat to Water House
RIBA, 66 Portland Place London W1B 1AD
Tomorrow evening, 26 February, the RIBA will be holding a talk with speakers Alex de Rijke (dRMM), Sjoerd Soeters (Soeters van Eldonk) and Mike Luddy (Royal Docks Management Authority) to discuss the issue of floating cities and whether they may be a realistic proposition for Britain. The talk takes the example of IJburg in Amsterdam and professionals based in the Netherlands to explore the subject of floating communities, with a particular emphasis on whether the London Royal Victoria Docks will become the first site here. To open the Venice Takeaway and a season of events across Spring 2013, Vicky Richardson of the British Council will be chairing the discussion investigating how the Dutch example might influence the future direction of the capital’s celebrated waterways.
