The C20 Society is holding a series of talks to celebrate the centenary of Edward Johnston’s famous typeface for the Underground.
Six speakers will look at the ideas behind changing styles of architectural lettering, a key aspect of twentieth-century design that is often overlooked. Speakers include Andrew Johnston on his grandfather’s type, Richard Kindersley on the influences of the Bauhaus and Arts and Crafts, and Dr Ann Pillar on the lettering of New Brutalism.
Talks will be held on consecutive Thursdays from 27 October, 6.30pm in The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, EC1M 6EJ.
Tickets cost £10, £8 for C20 members, £5 for students or save up to £10 if you book for all six, including a glass of wine.
