London housing association, L & Q, have been granted consent to the next phase of the redevelopment of the Aylesbury Estate near Waterloo and Elephant and Castle. Working on behalf of Southwark Council, this latest phase named Harvard Gardens will include 147 high-quality homes for a range of different sized families on different incomes. Each home will have its own garden, balcony or terrace. The existing apartment blocks on the site are due for demolition early in 2013 whilst the new homes are set for completion during 2015.
The Aylesbury Estate was built in the 1960s and 1970s and houses more than 7500 people. The regeneration programme has been underway since 2005 and is expected to run for around 15 years.
