Planning minister, Nick Boles, told Newsnight last Tuesday night that building on another two to three percent of open land in England would solve the nation’s housing shortage. This would increase the amount of built-on land from nine percent to twelve percent. Mr Boles said open land would be built on in exchange for commitments to defend greenbelt spaces. And open land would be built on only with beautifully designed, quality housing.
